KTPC believes that adolescent pregnancy and parent present challenges to adolescents, as well as their children, families and communities. KTPC also believes that young people are capable of making responsible decisions about sexuality, pregnancy, and parenting when they have accurate and complete information.
KTPC also recognizes that teens face many pressures. For example, teens may be led to believe that everyone is doin’ it. Not so! According to the 2007 YRBS, 50% of Kentucky teens say they have had sex. Some other common myths are:
- You can’t get pregnant the first time (the only 100% fool-proof method is not to have sex at all).
- If you pee right after sex, you won’t get pregnant.
- If he pulls out in time, you won’t get pregnant.
- If you douche after sex, you won’t get pregnant.
- If you have sex in a hot tub, you won’t get pregnant.
- If you stand up while having sex, you won’t get pregnant.
- If you have anal sex, you won’t get pregnant.
- You can’t get pregnant on your period.
- Sex = Love
- You cannot get pregnant unless the penis enters the vagina.
- You cannot get pregnant when you are taking birth control pills.
- Jumping up and down after sex will keep the girl from getting pregnant
So where can a teen go to get accurate information?
